Miranda House

About the College
Miranda House is one of the prominent women's colleges of Delhi University. Not many people know that Miranda House was originally a hostel for women established by Sir Maurice Gwyer, the Vice- Chancellor of the University of Delhi at that time. The number of residents fast outgrew the available accomodation and Sir Maurice first approached the Government to extend the hostel and subsequently for developing Miranda House into a full fledged college for women. The Government agreed and the foundation stone for the college was laid in 1948.

Miranda House has kept pace with the times. The original college had six departments, now there are 18. And while the original college had just six members on the academic staff the college now has close to 150.
