Jesus and Mary College, or JMC as it is popularly known, is run by the Jesus and Mary
Congregation- a religious congregation founded in France in 1818 by St. Claudine Thevenet. Six sisters
of the order came to India and set up a series of institutions.
The congregation has been running a school called the Convent of Jesus and Mary in Delhi since 1919.
The college was started in 1968 as a constituent college of Delhi University with a single
department offering the English (Honours) and B.A. (Pass) Course. Today the college has 10 honours
departments and offers 15 combinations for studying for a B.A. JMC is a sought after college, particularly
by those desirous of studying in an all women's college.

Size, Infrastructure, Facilities
The total enrollment at JMC is about 2500 students. The college is housed on its
own campus in Chanakyapuri in South Delhi. The infrastructure and facilities available include a three
floor library with 50,000 plus books; well equipped laboratories; a separate multi- function hall
for cultural activities; extensive gymnasium and sports facilities and a prayer room. The college
has about 20 societies for activities such as debating, quiz, music, dramatics etc.
